Kurashiki Municipal Board of Education  / Native English Teacher

April 2017 - April 2022,  Kurashiki City, Okayama Prefecture, Japan

• Created and implemented lessons for grades three through six as the head English teacher at five elementary schools 

  • Worked with each homeroom teacher individually to provide the best learning atmosphere for the students in the class

• In charge of speaking and listening tests at junior high school

  • Created, proctored, and graded over 450 students tests over the course of three weeks before written examinations

• Preparing Students for nationwide English examination

  • Practicing mock interviews with students after school to ensure students had the confidence and ability to pass

    • Including how to enter the room, answer questions, and creating individualized reading passages to focus on students’ weaknesses

  • Over five years, students had a 97% passing rate, of over 50 students

• Member of the English Camp Executive Committee

  • Worked to ensure smooth registration on first day of camp

    • Coordinated team of 12 Japanese Teachers of English (JTEs) to check in students, insure students received  camp t-shirt, cabin linens, as well as a welcome packet for the 150 plus campers

  • Managed communications  with campsite to coordinate over 600 meals for the  students and teachers

    • Created a flow chart and seating arrangements to fit everyone in the dining hall in an efficient and comfortable manner

Uwajima City Board of Education  / Assistant Language Teacher 

June 2014 - April  2017,  Uwajima City, Ehime Prefecture, Japan

• Prepare students for English speech competitions, from creation to presentation

  • Successfully guided first place team, who also won a trip to the British Consulate in Tokyo to perform their speech

• Compiled and produced materials to promote studying abroad for the junior high schoolers in Uwajima City

• Organized a pen-pal program between students learning Japanese in Hawaii and students learning English in Uwajima

• Region Advisor to the Nanyo Area

  • Tasked with the establishment and training of ten new ALTs annually

  • Provide counseling and workplace support for all ALTs in the area
